In the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi shared a touching message to Kazuki Takahashi, the late creator of the iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

Specifically, Togashi’s message came in the form of Shonen Jump’s author comments.

While it’s a short message, it’s a heartfelt one as it shows the bond between the two renowned manga artists.

Back in July, it was reported by the NHK that Takahashi has passed away at age 60. Takahashi’s body was found floating off the coast of Nago City at 10:30 AM on July 6. Soon, his death was confirmed.

After an investigation, it was revealed that Takahashi died while wearing snorkeling gear and that the cause of his death was drowning.

Earlier this month, a new report said that Takahashi died while assisting three people who were caught in a rip current.

Takahashi’s passing was mourned by fellow artists and fans from all over the world.

After all, his iconic work, Yu-Gi-Oh!, is not only a popular manga series, but it has also spawned a massive media franchise that is popular around the world.

Yu-Gi-Oh! began as a manga series that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 1996 to March 2004.

The manga was then adapted into several TV anime series, as well as a trading card game that has sold over 22 billion cards worldwide.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Message

As for the Hunter x Hunter creator’s message, Togashi’s author comment reads:

I remember us laughing about how both of our series had a jinx in our titles. May you rest in peace.

In this comment, Togashi recounts how both he and Takahashi acknowledged the jinx in the official titles of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu Yu Hakusho. This jinx refers to the star symbols in the Japanese titles of both series.

While Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho was published in the early 90s, both he and Takahashi were colleagues at Weekly Shonen Jump as Hunter x Hunter began serialization in the same year as Yu-Gi-Oh!

This isn’t just a one-off author comment though as fans can expect more comments from Togashi in the coming weeks. This is because Hunter x Hunter has finally returned from its nearly four-year-long hiatus.

New chapters of the series will be released weekly in Weekly Shonen Jump and on Manga Plus internationally. Another volume release is also set for November 2022.
