Hugh Jackman Says He Was Nearly Fired From X-Men As Wolverine

It might be hard to imagine anyone else as Wolverine other than Hugh Jackman, but it turns out there was actually a time that the actor was almost fired from his role in the X-Men film franchise.

Sure, Jackman may have long since given up playing X-Men's James Howlett, but it looks like were learning more new things about the actor's time as everyone's favorite adamantium-clawed mutant. Jackman just recently spoke in an interview with Daily Mail UK (via ComicBook.com), and during his discussion with the publication, the actor revealed his near-miss as Wolverine.

According to the actor, he was told that he wasn't really working as Wolverine and that the studio wanted him out of the franchise.

"I was told that things weren't really working out as they hoped. I was about to get fired from my first Hollywood movie - the biggest of my career. I was angry, I went home to my wife and I complained. I was whinging an Olympic level of whinging to Deb, my wife, and moaning about this person and that person," Jackman told the publication, "She listened to me very patiently for about an hour and finally, she just said, 'Listen, I think you have just got to trust yourself. You are worrying way too much about what everything else is thinking. Just go back to the character, focus on that, trust your instinct... you've got this.' To me that was love. Someone that believes in you when you don't fully believe in yourself."

Luckily, Jackman listened to his wife. He tried harder and stuck to the role despite the concerns of executives. Now, Jackman's iteration of Wolverine has become the most seminal of them all, entertaining fans starting from the early 2000s to 2017.

Now, fans are hoping to see Jackman reprise his role, though it's highly unlikely that the actor will return to spring out his claws after such a strong closing in Logan.

X-Men's last film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits cinemas this Friday.
