Although Jason Momoa's DCEU sequel, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is slated for next year, the upcoming film was the headline of controversies due to Amber Heard's defamation trial against Johnny Depp. And now that the trial is approaching its final stages with both Depp and Heard taking a stand, some details about Heard's upcoming film were just brought to light.
Heard has been constantly talking about how the defamation trial has affected her role in the sequel under Warner Bros and DC. However, recently, DC President Walter Hamada testified in court and clarified that Heard was still welcomed back despite her current situation.
One of Heard's controversial claims is that her appearance as Mera in the Aquaman sequel was reduced significantly due to the trial. Now, more recently, an outside consultant took a stand and revealed the bigger picture while also spoiling a major sequence about the upcoming film.
Kathryn Arnold, an entertainment industry consultant, was present in the defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, revealing Heard's scenes in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
Arnold unveiled that the film will open with Heard's Mera in the hospital, which held Mera to be part of a major action sequence that's supposed to take place in the film's final moments.
"They had her in the hospital very shortly in the first part of the movie called Act One," Arnold said. "They had her in the hospital and they pretty much had her in the hospital and then she was going to do this action sequence in the end."
The consultant describes that Mera is either injured or pregnant in the upcoming film.
"I believe that in the first act of the movie, she was injured somehow… or has something to do with the baby," Arnold added.
It's obvious that Amber Heard doesn't clearly want to let go of her role as Mera in the Aquaman franchise. Considering that this is her biggest casting to date and the immense amount of time she had to undergo to train for the role, it's still up to Warner Bros. about what to do with her role amid the defamation trial.
Nevertheless, Heard appears to be still involved with the film as revealed by consultant Kathryn Arnold. Sadly, the sequel might not give Heard's Mera considerable screentime if she's in the hospital or if she's pregnant with Arthur's baby, which are obvious indicators that the actress would be absent throughout the film.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will premiere in theaters on March 17, 2023.
