GLOW's Marc Maron Praises Script for Joker Movie; Confirms Involvement

Marc Maron does an amazing job of playing washed up director Sam Sylvia in Netflix's GLOW, and now news has it that he's been cast in Todd Phillips' Joker film.

Maron confirms in an episode of the WTF Podcast (via ScreenRant):

"It is true ladies and gentlemen, I have been added to the cast of the new Joker movie being directed by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro."

We don't really have that much specifics on who Maron is playing in the movie, but it's said that his character will be someone who works for DeNiro's talk show host. If you made me guess, I'd say he was some kind of recruiter who would hire people to participate in fake stories for DeNiro's character to cover on his show.

Besides Maron and the other two actors mentioned, it's also been confirmed that The Hangover's Bryan Callen has been cast as an old dance/stripper in the movie as well. We should expect the cast to continue growing as the year trudges along.

When it comes to the story of the film, Maron couldn't into any details, but he did have this to say about the script:

"Honestly, it's a pretty great script."

With the DCEU still trying hard to get back on its feet after Justice League, a lot of people were confused as to WB's decision to make a Joker spinoff film. Hopefully the script is good enough to launch this alternate superhero timeline that promises to be grittier and darker than the main DCEU.

Joker is set for a release on Oct. 4, 2019.
