How to Train Your Dragon 3 Opening Weekend is the Biggest for the Franchise

Disney may be dominating the animated movie market right now, but Dreamworks comes out with memorable hits once in a while. Last week saw the release of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and it apparently received one of the biggest opening weekends for the franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,The Hidden World had opened with $55.5 million. Compare that to the first film which earned $43.7 million and the sequel which got $49.9 million. At this point, it's not so surprising that How to Train Your Dragon 3 would get such a great opening weekend. The franchise maintains to be one of the best coming from Dreamworks, and the reviews from people who saw the film early have been nothing but stellar.

With The Hidden World, Dreamworks looks to end the franchise. It's amazing how much we've seen the characters grow over the years. Like Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon is one of those films that grow along with the audience. It took over nine years to tell the story of Hiccup and Toothless, and the story definitely matured the same time the audiences did.

Personally, I'm holding out that Dreamworks would like to reconsider and give us more stories of Hiccup and Toothless, but it's always good to quit while you're ahead. I mean, I have no idea what's happening with the Ice Age franchise now, but I'm sure they're going to keep making those movies in the future.
