Classroom of the Elite is filled with smart characters. The likes of Kiyotaka Ayanokoji may clearly be smart, but how smart a character like Hondo Ryotaro is in Classroom of the Elite is still a mystery to many fans.

Given that Hondo isn’t exactly a big player in the anime, he likely hasn’t made a big impression on many viewers, though he might have some potential as the story progresses.

As Classroom of the Elite features lots of characters, you’ll be forgiven if you forget about Hondo Ryotaro. After all, Hondo is essentially a background character in the anime so far.

Aside from having a rather plain appearance, Hondo hasn’t really done much in the first year part of the story. What is known about him is that he is friends with Kanji Ike and Haruki Yamauchi in Class 1-D.

He was shown in the Uninhabited Island arc where he participated in a group with Ken Sudo and Kanji Ike.

For the most part, though, Hondo is a character that just appears in the background. It doesn’t help that he was among the students who lost all their points during the first month.

Based on the anime’s events, Hondo doesn’t seem to be a noteworthy character, but it seems like his luck will turn in the 2nd Year.

It’s fair to say that Hondo Ryotaro isn’t a particularly smart character, especially when compared to other notable characters in the series like Kiyotaka Ayanokoji.

In the 2nd Year arc though, he was said to have worked hard in the second Uninhabited Island Exam.

This, coupled with the fact that he is still in Class 2-D at the Advanced Nurturing High School may imply that he is a capable student.

Because of this, it’s fair to say that Hondo isn’t an outright dull character, and he might even play a bigger role in future events.

Right now, it’s too early to tell if Hondo will become a bigger player in the series’ story. Fans will have to wait for the light novel’s story to continue in the latest volume.

In the meantime, Classroom of the Elite Season 3 is getting new episodes every week on Crunchyroll.
