Fall 23 has an anime for everyone as this season’s lineup has a wide range of shows in different genres. For harem fans, they should look no further than The 100 Girlfriends as it one-ups pretty much every harem anime out there right now.
A typical harem anime may have three to five girls vying for the attention of one guy.
But that’s not the case for The 100 Girlfriends as this show actually has (or at least will have) one hundred romantic partners for its main character.
The 100 Girlfriends Beats Every Harem Anime in Sheer Size
Animated by Bibury Animation Studios (of The Quintessential Quintuplets 2 fame), The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You is a new rom-com that’s bigger than any other harem anime.
That’s because the series follows Rentarou Aijou, a guy who has been rejected by 100 girls in his life so far. His fortunes soon reverse, but not exactly for the better as he is destined to meet 100 soulmates.
This happens after Rentarou prays to the God of Love in a shrine, though the god makes a mistake and soon blesses him with meeting 100 soulmates.
Of course, there’s a catch. Rentarou must return the affection of all his soulmates. If not, each of them will die.
Thus, he resolves to make them all his girlfriends in a huge harem that is bigger than any other anime.
Technically, the show won’t have 100 girls yet as even the manga hasn’t reached the 100 mark. Still, this show has all the elements of unique and memorable harem anime, even for those who might not be fans of the genre.

The 100 Girlfriends Is So Ridiculous That It Works
Harem anime often have ridiculous premises if you think about it from a real-life perspective. The 100 Girlfriends turns the ridiculousness to 100%, but based on the first episode, it works.
That’s because the show has a seriously incredible number of jokes and comedic scenes, to the point that it’s more of a riotous comedy than a balanced rom-com.
It’s also kind of refreshing how Rentarou has the resolve to make all his soulmates into his girlfriends. This is unlike most harem main characters who are paralyzed with the decision of whom to pursue.
Of course, this isn’t a show for everyone as its comedy might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But for those looking for a so-ridiculous-that-it-works anime, this new harem series might just be for them.
