House of the Dragon Teases Major Time Leaps as Aemond Targaryen Debuts in Trailer

There is a LOT to unpack from the full trailer of House of the Dragon but we'll stick to the little details that got us truly excited for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. Perhaps the best thing about the trailer is how it subtly introduced Aemond Targaryen and confirmed that the show will span several decades leading up to the Dance of the Dragons!

The House of the Dragon trailer put the focus on the four main characters Viserys I Targaryen, his brother Daemon, his daughter Rhaenyra, and his second wife Alicent Hightower. These four characters are all connected to the Iron Throne in their own way but they are not only major players in this new Game of Thrones.

Aemond Targaryen appears repeatedly in the trailer and we even get to see some of his defining moments in the story. There's the fight that breaks out when Aemond loses his eye in a fight against his nephew Lucerys Velaryon. Most notably, we even get to see the young Aemond claiming the dragon Vhagar who was previously the mount of Queen Visenya Targaryen.

Interestingly, we also get the adult Aemond, now known as Aemond One Eye, in action in the trailer. At one point, he is shown sparring with Ser Criston Cole while another shot shows him speaking secretly with an unseen man. Either way, it's clear that we'll get to see how Aemond goes from being a boy without a dragon to become a major player in the Dance of the Dragons.

Aemond Targaryen will be played by Leo Ashton as a young boy and The Last Kingdom actor Ewan Mitchell as a young adult. The character is only one of many who will be portrayed by two actors in House of the Dragon.

House of the Dragon premieres on HBO on August 21, 2022.
