The Disney Princesses scene in Ralph Breaks The Internet is certainly one of the most exciting scenes in the sequel. However, some fans have wondered why Wreck-It-Ralph 2 has decided not to include Princess Leia Organa in the sequence. After all, Leia is now a Disney princess since Disney acquired the Lucasfilm franchise. So why has Carrie Fisher's character been snubbed in the sequel?
Ralph Breaks The Internet co-director Rich Moore recently offered an explanation during a press event at the Walt Disney Animation Studios (via CinemaBlend). Moore admitted that although they wanted to add more princesses in the scene, it would simply be too much work so they had to compromise.
"We decided we're going to use the canonized group of princesses, known as the Disney Princesses. Not that we don't love Princess Leia and Kida [Atlantis: The Lost Empire] and Meg [Hercules] and Esmerelda [The Hunchback Of Notre Dame]. But we decided we're going to go with the official Disney princesses."
It does make sense but that hasn't stopped fans from wondering what it would be like if Princess Leia encountered Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) in the film. The producers might also encounter a problem considering that Fisher passed away in 2016 and they would need a different actress to provide Leia's voice.
Although Leia isn't in Ralph Breaks The Internet, there is no shortage of strong women in the film. In addition to the official Disney Princesses, Wonder Woman 1984 star Gal Gadot will provide the voice of Shank, a race car driver in a new game Slaughter Race. Shank is set to become Vanellope's new mentor, a development that concerns Ralph (John C. Reilly) since it could mean his little sidekick no longer wants to return to her own game.
Ralph Breaks The Internet will hit theaters on November 21.
