Here's Why Hulk Vs Thanos Rematch Never Happened In Avengers: Endgame

If there's one thing that was disappointingly absent from Avengers: Endgame, it would be the highly anticipated rematch between the Hulk and Thanos. However, there's a good reason why the fight didn't happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick and it has a lot to do with things that happened offscreen.

Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely recently spoke to Backstory Magazine about working on the MCU film and leaving out certain scenes (via Comicbook.com). McFeely and his co-writer Christopher Markus ultimately chose not to pursue the fight between the Hulk and Thanos because Bruce Banner has changed by the time the Mad Titan returned.

"The battle had all sorts of stuff in it. I don't know how long that battle is now, but it's not as long as you might think," McFeely said. "I know a lot of people were saying they can't wait for [Hulk and Thanos'] rematch. Well, that would've made sense had he not become Smart Hulk. He's a whole different thing, and that's not what drives him. So we never thought, ‘Oh, he really is trying to get a crack at Thanos now.'"

The introduction of Smart Hulk was certainly a welcome idea. After all, it was great to see that Banner and the Green Guy had finally managed to co-exist. On the other hand, it also meant that the rematch is never going to happen.
