Here’s When The Game Of Thrones Prequel Begins Production

HBO might be busy working on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, but now that the fantasy epic is coming to an end, the network has decided to begin work on the show's upcoming prequel series.

The HBO pilot for the Game of Thrones prequel series finally has a filming start date with the network's programming president Casey Bloys telling Entertainment Weekly that production for the show has already been set for early summer. Though production could last for months, it seems like HBO is preparing the Game of Thrones prequel for the year after the original series closes its curtain. The network wouldn't want to let fans have Game of Thrones withdrawal now, would it?

This new announcement comes after a year of rumors regarding the Game of Thrones prequel series production start date. There have been so many stories online – at one point, rumor had it that filming for the show would begin in October last year. Other reports suggested a February start date.

Of course, none of these reports were confirmed by HBO, though last summer Bloys told news outlets that he was hoping that the project would begin production sometime during the first half of 2019.

Right now, HBO has yet to confirm where production for the Game of Thrones prequel will take place. Many assume however that filming will be done at the original series established a base in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

There isn't that much info about the prequel series plot, though the show is going to take thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones returns with its eighth and final season on April 14.
