Fans were incredibly bummed out when Henry Cavill no-showed this year's San Diego Comic-Con and understandably so. In case you weren't aware, Cavill was heavily rumored to be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's surprise for his Black Adam panel. The actor even drew flak at the event, receiving a rain of boos from the crowd when he seemingly hinted that he has no idea which version of Superman his anti-hero will face down the line.

Now, the British star is finally breaking his silence. Speaking with BBC Radio 1, Cavill finally addressed the rumors that he was supposed to make an appearance at Comic-Con last July to officially confirm his Superman comeback. Despite the apparent coincidences, it turns out that he wasn't really scheduled to show up during Black Adam's panel.

He did seem to confirm, however, that he already knew about his DCU return at that point. Henry explains: "Yeah, there was a lot. Because all the rumors were coming out and obviously I was working and had a lot of people going, 'So, are you going to Comic-Con?' I was like, 'No. No, I'm not.' They're like, 'Ah, but you are, aren't you?'"

He added: "And I was like, 'No, really. I'm not. I'm not.' And then, obviously having the other secret in the back of my head and I was like, 'I'm just gonna have to ride this one out and see what happens.' Then obviously, everyone was so disappointed and I just thought, 'Okay, they're just… Patience. Patience. It will come.'"

Cavill's return as the Man of Steel couldn't have come at a better time, with the franchise he pretty much kickstarted approaching its 10th year. His future also looks very promising with James Gunn and Peter Safran leading the charge. These are exciting times for the DC Universe.

Details about Cavill's next DCU outing remain under wraps. Meanwhile, Black Adam is still screening in cinemas worldwide.
