HBO's live-action Watchmen series has got people talking since it won't be a direct adaptation of the graphic novel like the Zack Snyder film was. From what can be gathered by reports, it seems like the series will be a pseudo-sequel to the original tale, something DC is doing right now with Doomsday Clock. Unlike the DC maxi-series, it won't have characters like Batman but will have original characters and some of the ones who appeared in the graphic novel, like Ozymandias.
Two new teasers for the series have been released but they don't really give anything away, for better or worse. Both teasers involve policemen wearing these yellow masks, with the post itself claiming that "masks save lives," something that came from the original graphic novel. Why all of these policemen have masks isn't known yet but we'll find out eventually.
Everything about this new Watchmen show has been fairly secretive, though it looks like there will be former superheroes from the comic's past in law enforcement if these teasers are anything to go by. Whether any of them are the main characters from the comic or are just ones mentioned in passing isn't yet known, though Ozymandias has reportedly been confirmed and will be played by Jeremy Irons.
No specific release date has been set, but expect Watchmen to debut on HBO sometime in 2019.
