HBO Max to Counter Netflix With Its Major Blockbuster Content Including DC Films

HBO Max has become one of the top streaming services available to counter Netflix's major hold when it comes to streaming services. HBO Max will probably see a huge boost in its own content and customers in 2021. This rise will be most affected by Warner Bros. decision to release all of its films on the streaming service, at the same time that the movies will be released in theaters.

The announcement comes as Hollywood is working to cope with the realities of theaters closed around the United States caused by COVID-19. The decision makes Warner Bros., which is one of the biggest studios, go a different way from the traditional format of how blockbuster movies are released.

HBO Max is ramping up with its content, especially with DC movies in its slate. Casey Bloys, HBO and HBO Mac's CCO, announced that they will be looking into DC's library for content that they can produce outside of the United States. This move will be a first for DC film adaptations. In the US, live-action DC superhero content was largely produced and set within the borders. However, HBO Max is seeking to expand its global reach by utilizing people's love for comic books, wherever they are.

In fact, HBO Max will not only have DC movies in its slate. With the announcement of Warner Bros. to move its slate to HBO Max. This move will boost HBO Max's content offering even more. The streaming service will release major blockbusters on its platform. These movies include The Suicide Squad by James Gunn, Dune, and The Matrix 4.

This is a massive move for Warner Bros. which immediately sent major shockwaves in the movie industry. The announcement came after WB has previously announced the release of Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas Day simultaneously on HBO Max and the big screen.

Warner Bros. will be the first major Hollywood studio that implemented a hybrid model where people can see their films on the streaming service in the US for one month, from the date of its theatrical release. The films will continue to have theatrical releases in other countries, where HBO Max is not currently available. The streaming service will be expanding in Latin America and certain parts of Europe in the second half of 2021.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on December 25, 2020. It will be available both on HBO Max and theaters.
