The Star Wars franchise is enjoying renewed success all thanks to Lucasfilm's decision to expand the beloved science-fiction property to streaming. Since 2019, Disney has released several projects that have kept fans quite satiated.

But there's one series concept the fandom has been eager to see and it takes a page out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's playbook. Many believe that Star Wars would also benefit from producing a "what if" kind of show, diving into alternate stories that could have taken place in a galaxy far, far away.

Turns out, prequel trilogy star Hayden Christensen who made his triumphant return to the franchise in the standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi series also wants to explore a major "what could have been" in Anakin's life and it's an idea fans have been toying about for decades now.

Appearing at FAN EXPO in Philadelphia (via Star Wars Holocron), Christensen expressed his desire to see an alternate timeline where Anakin was never lured to the dark side and he and Padme were able to raise the twins (Luke and Leia) with the guidance of Obi-Wan.

One would argue that a story like that pretty much defeats the entire narrative purpose of the Skywalker Saga because it obviously takes out the central conflict. But what if instead of Anakin, it was Luke or Leia who were the ones eventually lured to the dark side? The possibilities are endless.

Considering the franchise is ever-expanding, there's always a strong possibility that a Star Wars "what if" project could come to fruition. Hopefully, it's something that Lucasfilm is currently developing.

As for Christensen, his Star Wars renaissance is far from over as he is expected to reprise his role as Anakin/Darth Vader in the upcoming Ahsoka series. The actor is also heavily rumored to be making his return to the big screen in the "New Jedi Order" film project starring Daisy Ridley.

Meanwhile, all of your Star Wars favorites — from movies to series are available to stream on Disney+.
