Hans Zimmer on Coming Back to Score Wonder Woman 1984

After working on Batman v Superman, Hans Zimmer had announced his retirement from scoring superhero movies, but earlier this year, he had seemingly changed his mind and signed on to compose music for Wonder Woman 1984. Zimmer talks about his change of heart and teases the movie itself.

Talking to Collider, Zimmer explained:

"It was odd say to say ‘yes' to because my friend, [Wonder Woman composer Rupert Gregson-Williams], I had worked really hard at getting Rupert the job on the first one. But remember the motif, the Wonder Woman theme is mine, actually. I wrote that damn thing. And we had done it live and it became more and more interesting. I just thought it was important to sort of finish it. And Patty [Jenkins] phoned me, and she had a really interesting idea as well. Again, the story she is going to tell, or she is probably right now on a set telling, it's a story you want to be a part of."

No doubt Zimmer has grown to be one of the most influential composers in Hollywood today, and WW84 is incredibly lucky to have nudged him out of superhero retirement. Though the DCEU films get a lot of flak from the fans, Zimmer's work on the music has been nothing but top tier. Who ever thought that someone could write a Superman theme that could rival John Williams?

We have no idea what Zimmer is planning for Wonder Woman 1984, but it's probably going to be something amazing enough that Zimmer had to work on the film himself.

Catch Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters Nov. 1, 2019.
