Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s Newest MCU Villain Is the Worst, Director Reveals

Since Kang the Conqueror’s MCU debut, director James Gunn introduces another fearful and a more cruel villain set in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the High Evolutionary.

With early reactions claiming that Marvel Studios will reclaim their glory once the threequel releases, the High Revolutionary’s (portrayed by Chukwudi Iwuji) superpowers and abilities differ from Kang.

“This guy over here [Chukwudi Iwuji] plays the cruelest MCU villain we’ll ever see.” Gunn said in a recent interview with ExtraTV.

“So you get to see how he negatively impacts Rocket, his little friends.”

Considering that the official teasers and trailers clearly depict Rocket’s past and witnessing his past furry friends hurt, the High Evolutionary is not someone to take so lightly.

“‘Look, this [High Evolutionary] is a villain,” Iwuji said on BlackTreeTV.

Iwuji added, “I mean, often certain [villains] in this universe, we lose sight of them as villains because we are trying to make them sympathetic, you know?”

“But that was something that James [Gunn] and I knew we weren’t going to do with this guy.” Iwuji shared, “We were going to ride it until the end.”

Iwuji continued describing how much his character differs extremely from the previous MCU villains we’d seen on the big screens before:

“As extreme as that seems, when you think of some of the most horrific figures in human history, there is a sense of zealotry and narcissism and single-mindedness.”

The High Evolutionary actor even emphasized that that was exactly what director Gunn told him from the start: “Ground this character” to turn out to be the cruelest and most unredeemable MCU villain in history.

The High Evolutionary is likely the cause of Rocket’s suffering, ending up with having to face him head-on before we see the last of the guardians together.

For now, you can check him out in the official teaser trailer for GOTG Vol. 3 below:
