I think it's already safe to say that Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 is centered on Peter Quill and Gamora's intriguing romance and Star-Lord's attempt at winning back his one-time beau's heart. Obviously, things are a bit problematic between the two as the version of Gamora who currently exists in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline isn't the same as the one who died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

When the 2014 version of Gamora found out in Avengers: Endgame that she and Quill were an item, it was evident that she wasn't thrilled about the idea of being romantically involved with the Guardians' defacto leader. Judging by the stuff we've seen from the trailers and teasers Marvel Studios has released so far, it doesn't look like Star-Lord and Gamora will be able to rekindle their romance.

Now, it looks like James Gunn is set to pull a massive swerve in Vol. 3, something that is teased during the closing moments of the MCU film's Super Bowl LVII trailer. The action-packed teaser ends with Gamora rejecting Peter, telling him that she's not same the person she was in love with.

Hilariously, Gamora says that Peter's description seems to fit Nebula more than her, and as soon as Quill realizes it, we get a scene where he seems to be flirting with Nebula but she brushes him off.

The idea of Star-Lord and Nebula's friendship blossoming into something more is definitely surprising and it'll be interesting to see if the trailer's teaser will actually lead to a romance plot between the two.

Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
