I think we can all agree that Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of the best MCU films Marvel Studios has ever produced and it isn't that surprising that we're already getting ourselves a third sequel. However, the future of the GOTG franchise doesn't look all that promising and if director James Gunn is to be believed, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could mark the end of our favorite space outlaws. Gunn has stated in several occasions that he's always intended for the series to be a trilogy and has ruled out the possibility of doing a fourth film.

The potential ending of the Guardians series is something that actor Dave Bautista fully supports and even the former WWE superstar has teased in previous interviews that their story could in fact wrap up in Vol. 3. Big Dave, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel franchise recently expressed his unhappiness over the way his character has been "mishandled" by Marvel Studios, and now, he is once again insisting that Drax will bid farewell after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

In a recent appearance on The Ellen Show, the star of Netflix's Army of the Dead said that he's ready to end his MCU tenure following GOTG 3 and surprisingly enough, it's not because of his growing frustration over the character's creative direction. Bautista explains: "It's weird because when I said it, I said it recently because I've been doing interviews and talking a lot about guardians and I didn't think it was going to be news because I figured everybody assumed that this is how it works."

Dave added that age is already catching up to him. "We work in trilogies and James Gunn has already announced that it's his last film, and when James is done I'm done, and I'm also going to be 54 years old by the time Guardians 3 comes out and just like the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me. The journey has come full circle and I'm ready to just kind of step aside and wrap it up."

Honestly, it would be a huge bummer to see Bautista go because Drax has yet to truly showcase what he's made of. Don't get me wrong, I've always enjoyed his hilarious quips but you can't deny the fact that the character has seemingly been reduced to being comic relief which is totally unbecoming of his "destroyer" moniker. Hopefully, Vol. 3 will give Drax his moment of glory because he deserves it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
