Let's be real here, James Gunn doesn't get enough credit for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how he turned the Guardians of the Galaxy from D-list superheroes to one of the billion-dollar franchise's most formidable teams. Despite Gunn's brilliance, it turns out, putting together a film such as GOTG isn't a walk in the park for everyone involved. Now, as production rolls on for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn admits that he's having a hard time crafting it.

In a stunning confession, the ever-so-outspoken filmmaker revealed that he's struggling with GOTG 3 in terms of budget. Speaking with Collider, the director of DC's The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker pretty much suggested that things would be easier if they had more money to work with under their belt. Check out what he had to say below:

"No. I innately think about budget while I'm writing, always. Even something as big-budgeted as (GOTG) Volume 3 is still a struggle. You know, it's still a struggle to make it fit the budget because you want a movie to be half a billion dollars. If I had half a billion dollars, I could kind of do pretty close to what I want. That's how hard it is. I'm always having to think about budget and make concessions because of budget, but oftentimes it leads to good things. You oftentimes are forced to rethink something and you have to come up with a creative solution."

Budget constraints are obviously unavoidable but despite that, Gunn has managed to deliver every single time he sat on the director's chair. And with two successful Guardians films under his belt, it's already safe to say that he has the upcoming sequel on lock. I mean, struggles aside, he always makes it seem like he's on cruise control.

The MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
