Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Crosses Major MCU Box Office Milestone

James Gunn’s last MCU project sets his love letter to the Guardians on fire as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets a new milestone for Marvel.

Marvel Phase 5 hasn’t been doing good in theaters nor at the box office. Kickstarting off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has led MCU fans questioning the sudden decline of their movie quality.

However, Gunn’s franchise sparked hope amongst fans, considering we’ll not only be seeing the last of the Guardians in their own film together, but also getting a deeper inspection on how Rocket the raccoon came to be.

Now, as Box Office Pro shared, Vol. 3 had an estimated gross drop on its second weekend at the domestic box office, dropping by 48.9%, which earned $60.5M this weekend after its $118.4M opening back in May 5.

As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets marked as best second-weekend for a Marvel Studios sequel, Vol. 3 is also set as the lowest drop for an MCU movie since 2018’s Black Panther.

Earlier projections suggested that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would earn between $120 to $155 million on its opening weekend at the domestic box office.

This, in turn, would not only surpass 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1’s $94.3M record, but even 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s $146.M on their opening weekend earnings.

Not to mention, as per Deadline, Vol. 3 has earned an estimated global total of $528.8M, where $213.2M came from its domestic earnings, while $315.6M is from the international box office, rendering Vol. 3’s worldwide earnings as the ‘second largest Hollywood release this 2023.’

As Vol. 3 marks the end and the beginning of forming a new team of Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of the film, Marvel might have reeled MCU fans back into immersing themselves in the multiverse saga.

For now, you can still catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 showing in theaters worldwide.
