Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 has officially begun, and with Ellen Pompeo’s reduced appearance, many want to know how she will exit this season. Thankfully, showrunner Krista Vernoff revealed how would the fan-favorite character would leave.
Pompeo’s limited appearance in Grey’s Anatomy has been the talk of the town. Does this mean that her eight-episode appearances will be the last time fans see Meredith?
Ellen Pompeo’s Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Exit
It has been known that fans will only see Meredith in eight episodes out of the series’ 20+ episodes. Vernoff revealed it would be from Episode 1 to Episode 8 and not just in random episodes.
With that said, something big may be about to happen that forces Meredith to leave. So, what could it be?
In an interview with Variety, the EP hinted at what would take Meredith off-screen, and it had something to do with her family, specifically her kids.

“When you’ve got a woman who has a job that she loves, a career that she loves, a man that she loves, what is the thing that might take her out of the main storytelling? And my answer to that is: her kids,” she said. “Something happens with her kids that changes the course of her plans for her life. And as a mother, I resonate with that.”
Pompeo decided to limit her appearance in the series to have time to work on other projects, like the upcoming limited series on Hulu.
Will Fans See the Last of Pompeo in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19?
Fans can’t help but ask if Pompeo will be leaving the series in general and if Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 will be the last time fans see her character.

In a different interview with Deadline, Vernoff cleared the questions about this.
“I don’t have an answer to that, that’s always up to Ellen,” she stated. “She’s got some new projects on the horizon that she’s really excited about but Grey’s Anatomy is is her heart, she keeps saying it is her heart, so we’ll see.”
So when asked if there were no plans to make the current season’s finale to be the farewell episode for Meredith, she said, “No.”
