Godzilla: King Of Monsters Director Wants A Crossover With Marvel’s Avengers

Legendary Pictures has been building itself a massive monster universe that's slowly rising to a showdown between Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed King Ghidorah. However, while most fans are eagerly anticipating the battle between monsters in Legendary Picture's latest monster film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty can't help but dream of a monster universe with the Avengers in it.

Taking to Twitter, Dougherty imagines seeing a classic Marvel comic turned into a film – Godzilla #23. Most fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not know it, but back in the late 1970s, Marvel Comics acquired the rights to turn Godzilla into a comic book series, allowing the monster to wreak havoc on the Avengers' comic book universe.

"This movie would make the world a better place," the director wrote on his tweet.

Though the rights have since returned to their former publishers like Dark Horse Comics and IDW Publishing, the idea of an Avengers and Monster Universe spinoff does sound kind of Interesting. Imagine a comic book world filled with monsters like King Ghidorah, or Mothra, or Rodan. Imagine Godzilla. Though some might imagine that the Avengers would make short work of these beasts, the old comic book series reveals that many of Marvel's best heroes actually failed to defeat Godzilla and put an end to his rampage. These heroes include Godzilla Squad, Fantastic Four, and most of the Avengers.

We're pretty sure that if this comic were turned into a film, it would be a pretty tough fight.

Marvel's next film, Avengers; Endgame, premieres April 26, 2019.
