Gizmo Just Got Dumped by Gremlins Actor for The Mandalorian's Grogu

I think we can all agree that Grogu has taken the entire galaxy by storm and the popularity of The Mandalorian creature, formerly known as Baby Yoda has crossed over from the confines of the Star Wars franchise to the mainstream media.

Since the character's inception, however, the Force-wielding child has had his fair share of controversies and at one point, Gremlins director Joe Dante even called Grogu a "shameless" rip-off of Gizmo, the adorable brown-and-white Gremlin who snatched the hearts of many back in the 80s.

Speaking with ComicBook during the press junket for Max's newest animated show Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, the cast and crew, including actors BD Wong, James Hong, Ming Na Wen, Isaac Wang, AJ Locascio, and Gabrielle Neveah, as well as writer/producers Brendan Hay and Tze Chun, and director Joe Dante were put on the hot seat.

When asked which between Gizmo and Grogu they would prefer to be their pet, the majority pretty much preferred their own over the Star Wars standout.

Well, except for Wong who shockingly chose Baby Yoda. He explains: "I think I might choose Baby Yoda, because I know what Baby Yoda's going to become, and so who wouldn't want that around?"

Surprisingly, Dante didn't pick a side despite his previous criticism of the MandoVerse character and instead offered a grin. Either he's secretly warming up to Grogu or he just doesn't want to stir more controversy.

The whole Gizmo vs Grogu debate will probably not end anytime soon but at the end of the day, it just goes down to a matter of preference. I'm pretty if given the opportunity to do an ambitious Star Wars and Gremlins crossover, both characters would actually get along pretty nicely.

I mean, they're not exactly polar opposites, and despite both of them having the same cuddly feature, they're not the type of creatures to be taken lightly.
