Along with the upcoming anime film sequel, Given fans will be treated to more soon even if the manga is already over. That’s because Cheri+ magazine announced that the Given BL manga is coming back with a new extra story in early 2024.
Details about the manga’s return were revealed in the January 2024 issue of Cheri+, which was released in Japan recently. There, it was confirmed that the extra story will not just be a one-shot return.
Instead, this will be a new serialization, indicating that this will be longer than your typical bonus manga chapters.
What to Expect in the Given Manga’s Return
Given is a boys’ love manga that was serialized in Shinshokan’s Cheri+ josei manga magazine. The series began in April 2013 and ended in March 2023. The series also got a one-season anime adaptation and a film.
The series’ decade-long run is impressive for manga standards. Of course, it meant that BL fans no longer had new chapters to look forward to.
At least, that will change early next year as Given will return with an extra story series. The first chapter of this new story will be released in Cheri+’s March 2024 issue.
There aren’t many details about this new story, but what’s certain is that it will at least be a couple of chapters long.
That’s because the announcement confirmed that it will be a new serialization. This should mean fans can expect something a bit longer than bonus manga releases from other finished titles like Attack on Titan.
To celebrate the release, it was also revealed that the magazine’s March 2024 issue will feature Given characters on the cover.

Given BL Manga New Story Series: Where to Read
Given’s upcoming new story will be available in Japan on Cheri+ magazine on January 30, 2024. The rest of the chapters in this story should also be released there.
As for fans outside of Japan, the Given manga is published by Viz Media through its BL imprint, SuBLime.
Currently, there’s no word on release plans for this extra story outside of Japan, meaning fans will need to wait a bit longer before they get to read it.
At least, fans have more than just the new manga story to look forward to. For starters, the 2020 Given anime film has a two-part movie sequel in the works, with the first set to be released in Japan on January 27, 2024.
There’s also an upcoming Given exhibition that will celebrate the manga and anime. The exhibit will be open in Space Galleria in Animate Ikebukuro, Tokyo. It will be open from January 26 to February 26, 2024.
