Ghostbusters 2020 to Center on Four Teen Characters

As if to answer several fan prayers, Sony is now working on a new Ghostbusters movie set in the original universe, and Jason Reitman—son of original director Ivan Reitman—is set to direct. We don't have any major details on the story yet, but we do have a little info on the supposed leads.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is said to be looking for four teen characters to lead the film, two boys and two girls. Reitman had also told EW about what to expect with this movie:

"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day. This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet."

While I know some fans may want the story to focus on the original Ghostbusters, having the focus on a new group has always been the trend with these "reboot/sequels". No doubt the original actors are going to appear in the film to pass the torch to this new generation of actors.

While we don't know what the main story is about, I have a feeling that the movie is going to be using a story that Max Landis (Bright) has pitched a few years ago. He had it online for everyone to read, but it was recently taken down. I have a feeling that has something to do with this movie being made.

Either way, I hope they adapt Landis' story. I thought it was pretty great, and it gave us a whole new cast of characters while at the same time paying respect to what's come before it.

Ghostbusters 3 comes out the summer of 2020.
