Ghost in the Shell is making headlines again, but not because of a brand-new franchise entry. Instead, the Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 The Last Human movie just got a new teaser that revealed its November release date.
It might seem like a new film, but The Last Human is instead a compilation movie of SAC_2045 Season 2.
Essentially, it’s a condensed version of the 3DCG anime released on Netflix, and it’s a follow-up to 2021’s Sustainable War movie.
Despite being a beloved sci-fi series, you’ll be forgiven if you’re not familiar with SAC_2045 as the series flew under the radar when it was released.
SAC_2045: Netflix’s 3D Ghost in the Shell Anime
Ghost in the Shell is a franchise that has influenced numerous sci-fi and cyberpunk works.
While its most popular entry is arguably the 1995 movie by Mamoru Oshii, the series started as a manga by Masamune Shirow.
Since then, the franchise has gotten lots of projects, including a range of TV anime adaptations and even a live-action Hollywood movie starring Scarlett Johansson.
The newest project in the franchise is Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, a 3DCG anime by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts. Its two seasons were streamed globally on Netflix in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
Given the number of entries in the franchise, it might be confusing to figure out which continuity this series is in.
But its title should make things clear as SAC stands for Stand Alone Complex, indicating that it exists in the same continuity as Production I.G’s early 2000s TV anime.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 The Last Human Compilation Gets Release Date
While some fans were excited about its release, the series did not live up to expectations as its story and animation were criticized.
Still, even though it’s not an acclaimed work, the series got a compilation film release.
The first season got a compilation film release in 2021 titled Sustainable War. Soon, Season 2 will also get a compilation movie, and it is titled The Last Human.

Also revealed was that the film will get a three-week theatrical run in Japan from November 24, though it will only be screened in 30 locations.
As with the previous compilation film, this upcoming movie will feature brand-new scenes. But for now, there’s no word yet on when it will be released internationally.
