Game of Thrones Showrunners Will Be Making New Batch of Star Wars Movies

The whole Star Wars universe has basically been all about the Skywalker saga, but recently Lucasfilm has been pumping out non-Skywalker-centric stories like Rogue One and Solo. With Rian Johnson developing his own trilogy of Star Wars stories, The Star Wars Show reports that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be making a third series of films set in the same universe.

Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said:

"David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story, and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways In find incredibly exciting."

Benioff and Weiss have also released their own joint statement:

"In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we've been dreaming of it ever since… We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete."

This is certainly some big news for some fans. With Johnson's upcoming trilogy, and a bunch of anthology movies, nobody ever expected that Lucasfilm would be making a third trilogy set apart from the Skywalkers. Based on Benioff and Weiss' work on Game of Thrones, my best guess is that their trilogy of movies will be a bit more medieval—like the era of The Old Republic.

No details have been released for this new series of movies, but hopefully we get some updates once Weiss and Benioff are done working on Game of Thrones.
