Gal Gadot's New Movie Pits Her As Female James Bond

DC Studios is taking a long, long time to bring back Gal Gadot’s role as Wonder Woman back in the franchise, however, with her most recent cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, it is safe to presume that DCU still has a placeholder for the Amazonian hero.

While DC fans are waiting on new reports in regards to Gadot’s future in the DCU, the 38-year-old actress is starring in a new movie where she plays a female James Bond.

Titled Heart of Stone, Gadot’s lead character will be leading the new upcoming Netflix franchise, which director Tom Harper elaborates on.

“There were a couple of things that immediately jumped out at me,” Harper shared in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The first was that it was an original movie in a genre that is full of great franchises, but things that have been around for a long time — the Mission: Impossibles or the Bonds or the Bournes.”

Harper added: “I love those films, but they’ve all been around for decades, so working on something that was an addition to that genre but an original piece of material felt really exciting and was a real opportunity. And I also just loved the fact that it had a female protagonist at the heart of it.”

Although female-led action films have long been in existence, such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider series or even The Hunger Games series, Harper claims a new feminist franchise had been long overdue.

“That’s something that we’ve seen very rarely in that genre,” the director continued.

“The thing that Gal [Gadot] and [producers at] Skydance spoke about a lot was they wanted Rachel to be a character that wasn’t just a female actress playing a sort of male character, but a woman at the heart of it who was responding differently.”

Considering that Gadot is no stranger when it comes to fashioning a female icon, her new role as Rachel Stone, while also being inspired by Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and James Bond (last played by Daniel Craig), could be introducing a new era for the history of female-led series.

Apart from Gadot, the new Netflix movie also stars Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, and Paul Ready.

Gal Gadot’s new movie, Heart of Stone, is currently slated to be released on Netflix on August 11.
