Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Series Announced From Injustice Writer Tom Taylor

During NYCC 2018 Marvel surprised audiences by announcing a new Spider-Man ongoing comic book. Using the classic Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man title, the series will have a shiny new #1 courtesy of writer Tom Taylor and artist Juan Cabal, a team that has done plenty of good with All-New Wolverine. It seems like this title will be replacing Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, which was written by Chip Zdarsky, though this hasn't been confirmed.

Friendly Neighborhood will focus on the more human aspects of Spider-Man, with Taylor promising to show more of his relatable side. While Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man has done a solid enough job of doing this, it can often be overshadowed by the accidental clones and Boomerang being Peter's roommate.

Scheduled to launch in January, it will be interesting seeing how Taylor and Cabal handle the wallcrawler after writers like Chip Zdarsky were able to elevate Spidey to new heights. If the company does end up canceling Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, which seems likely since it's only being used to tie-in to Spider-Geddon right now, Friendly Neighborhood should do a good job at being the second Spider-Man book.

Tom Taylor has written some excellent comic books in his time, making the Injustice comic book a must-read that somewhat surpassed the video games and turning Jean Grey into a leader who is worth following in X-Men Red. That's not mentioning his excellent All-New Wolverine comic, which added a lot of depth to the former/current X-23. Expect this to be one of the best comics to come out in January.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 comes out this January.
