Frank Grillo Jumps Ship to DCU After Disappointment with MCU Role

Frank Grillo joined the MCU as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, his tenure in the franchise was short-lived as his character died right at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War. He also had cameo appearances in Avengers: Endgame and an episode of What If...?

Now, it looks like Grillo is taking another shot at the comic book world as he revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com that he has joined the DCU franchise. While he didn't reveal the role, he shared that his decision to join the franchise was due to his disappointment with his short-lived term in the MCU.

"They never told a story [about Crossbones]. The mythology of the MCU and just what Marvel has in its pool of characters, it's so deep. Crossbones was there for a minute, but he was supposed to be there longer, then they went the direction they did," he said.

"I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is that if you see how many people around the world have responded to Crossbones, and again, he's on the screen for a very f--king short amount of time, I think there's more there. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed, which is why I went over to DC."

There are speculations online that Grillo joined the cast of the Creature Commandos animated series, the only DCU project that is currently in production. He also showed up in the red carpet premiere of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which fueled the speculation regarding his DCU casting.

Hearing the actor's words, it is understandable why he decided to join the DCU and it looks like his role will be meatier this time around compared to what he did in the MCU. If the project is indeed Creature Commandos, perhaps he'll also play the role in live-action which is why he was enticed to join the franchise.
