Frances McDormand Passed on Playing The Joker's Mom in the Origin Movie

The Joker Origin movie is picking up steam as the film is set to start production in a few months. News has it that the movie is looking for an actress with a name to fill in the role of Joker's mother, and Frances McDormand has apparently passed on the role.

This news comes from The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez:

If they were planning to have the Joker have some kind of abusive mother, I hope that they consider casting Allison Janey in the role. She won an Oscar for playing a horrible mother in I, Tonya, and what's funny is, she played opposite an actress who played Joker's love interest Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie.

So far, we don't have that much info on the official story of the Joker film. We know that Joaquin Phoenix has officially signed on the film, and Robert DeNiro is also playing a role. The movie is also set to have a smaller budget than the usual DCEU films, and is going to be set outside of the main DCEU timeline.

It's considered a risky move on DC's part, but seeing that Marvel hasn't even considered making any one-off films, these spinoff movies could really set them ahead of the competition. Just imagine the possibilities of alternate realities being presented; I would absolutely love a Superman: Red Son film. How about a Red Mist Batman horror movie?

No release date has been set for the Joker origin movie, but everyone is expecting a release sometime next year.
