Former Marvel Studios Executive Criticized for Treatment of VFX Workers

Yesterday, we learned about the shocking exit of Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso after working for 17 years and serving as the executive producer of almost all MCU films and TV shows that we know and love. Fans were caught up by surprise since she was considered one of the key players behind the franchise's success.

Now, people are wondering why Alonso exited the position and what was the "smoking gun" that led to the shocking move. While we don't have the big picture yet, a report from Below the Line claimed that she has been "unhappy for a while" and "out of sync" with the other top leaders at Marvel.

Later on, Vulture senior reporter Chris Lee gave some insights on Twitter regarding Alonso's work at Marvel Studios prior to her exit where he claimed that multiple sources told him that she is being cited as the one responsible for Marvel Studios' toxic work environment in the VFX companies.

"SO many VFX sources have told me Victoria Alonso was singularly responsible for Marvel's toxic work environment: a kingmaker who rewarded unquestioning fealty with an avalanche of work, but who also maintained the blacklist that kept FX pros wild eyed with fear," he tweeted.

"She held a crazy amount of power, bigfooting all major creative decisions on Marvel movies and shows. 'Kevin Feige and Victoria Alonso personally approve every single shot, all the visual effects work, which is usually the job of a director or a show runner,' one tech told me."

The reporter also added, "'The main one that everyone's quite scared of is Victoria Alonso,' another tech said. 'If she likes you, you're going to get work and you're going to move up in the industry. If you have pissed her off in any way, you're going to get frozen out'"

Based on this information, it sounds like the VFX artists who worked on the MCU projects didn't have a great working relationship with Alonso and, now that she's gone from the studio, we're now starting to hear more information about how she was leading her position as the president of post-production.

It would be curious to see whether we will hear more information about Alonso's exit in the coming days as we're currently looking at the effects and repercussions of this situation on Marvel Studios' leadership and management.
