Former Doctor Who Showrunner Says He Offered The Role To Hugh Grant

It looks like award-winning romantic comedy actor Hugh Grant could have been one of the Time Lords in BBC's Doctor Who if showrunner Russell T. Davies could help it.

The former Doctor Who showrunner just recently spoke with with iNews to help promote his upcoming project with Grant A Very English Scandal and during the interview Davies confirmed that he had once offered a Doctor Who role to the BAFTA-winning actor.

According to the showrunner he had always wanted to work with Grant on Doctor Who because he always believed that the Four Weddings and a Funeral star was one of the finest actors in Britain.

"I have always wanted to work with Hugh Grant. Always. I literally offered him Doctor Who in 2004. I told him that and he was like ‘really?!' He knew nothing about that. I love him. I think he's one of Britain's finest actors."

It's interesting to hear Davies talk about offering Grant the role. The actor has previously told fans that he was once offered the chance at playing BBC's Time Lord, hinting at regret for turning down the chance when he had it.

Most of the time when actors come out and say that they've been offered roles which at times seem unlikely, producers usually openly deny the claims. It's rare to see cases like Davies and Grant's where actors and producers corroborate each other's stories.

The eleventh season of Doctor Who premieres this October on BBC.
