Fist of the North Star is one of Shonen Jump’s most iconic titles from the 80s. Finally, anime fans who didn’t grow up with the show can find out why it became such a classic as a new Fist of the North Star anime has been announced.

The new anime’s reveal happened recently to celebrate the manga’s 40th anniversary.

While there wasn’t much info revealed, the anime is confirmed to get a new cast and creators.

Fist of the North Star Celebrates 40th Anniversary With New Anime Announcement

Shonen Jump is home to many classics, but perhaps the most well-known one worldwide is Dragon Ball. Before Akira Toriyama’s genre-defining work though, there was Fist of the North Star (or Hokuto no Ken).

It may have only been serialized for five years, but Fist of the North Star became the defining series of the 80s in Japan. To date, it is one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 100 million copies in circulation.

The manga is also hugely influential, with titles like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Berserk being influenced by the series.

Despite being a huge hit, the series did not get a new manga or anime project in the decades that followed. But there have been games like Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.

Finally, a new anime was announced by Warner Bros. Japan. This new anime was announced to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary on September 13.

There aren’t many details about the new anime yet, but its description implies that it may be a 3D anime series.

In the new anime’s announcement, it was mentioned that it will be made with the “latest animation technology.”

This is a fairly vague description, but considering its wording, it might imply that it will feature 3D animation. After all, that style is more fitting to the “latest” description.

It won’t be too surprising if that is the case as Slam Dunk’s recent anime film was made with 3D animation. Even the Saint Seiya anime by Netflix was made in 3D.

Whatever the case may be, what can be said for certain is that the manga’s original creators are looking forward to the work.

There’s no word yet on a release date for the new Fist of the North Star anime.

Given that only a teaser visual was shared, it’s likely still early into its production. This means fans will have to wait a while before its release.
