"In literature, dystopian novels and science fiction has been a safe place for us to deal with collective terror," he said. "But what Wells also understood is that the greatest threat is not from out there, but from inside ourselves, and we see in this new telling of the story a warning that it is only our own humanity that will save us."

The series, which is created by Howard Overman, will also star Léa Drucker, Natasha Little, Daisy Edgar Jones, Stéphane Caillard, Adel Bencherif, and Guillaume Gouix. There will be eight episodes, four of which will be directed by Gilles Coulier (The Natives). Richard Clark (Versailles) will take over the remaining four episodes.

War of the Worlds is produced by Studiocanal's Urban Myth Films in partnership with Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa and AGC Television. The series has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
