First Look at PS5 Gameplay with Unreal Engine 5

There's a lot of hype building up to the release of the PS5, but so far, what we know about the console is pretty sparse. What's great is, Sony looks to be slowly revealing the capabilities of this next-gen of consoles, and Epic Games has released a tech demo of gameplay on the PS5 with Unreal Engine 5.

You can watch the short trailer at the top of the article, but this is the full demo:

Unreal Engine 5 empowers artists to achieve unprecedented levels of detail and interactivity and brings these capabilities within practical reach of teams of all sizes through highly productive tools and content libraries.

Join Technical Director of Graphics Brian Karis and Special Projects Art Director Jerome Platteaux (filmed in March 2020) for an in-depth look at "Lumen in the Land of Nanite" - a real-time demonstration running live on PlayStation 5 showcasing two new core technologies that will debut in UE5: Nanite virtualized micro polygon geometry, which frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see, and Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.

The game engine will also include features from the Unreal Engine 4.25 such as Niagra VFX improvements, audio, and animation system enhancements, as well as Chaos physics and destruction.

So far, the demo looks pretty solid, but I'm sure a lot more people are waiting on more information to properly gauge how excited they should get. With PlayStation seemingly taking the charge with this demo, I'm sure everyone is waiting to see what Xbox Series X has up its sleeve.

While the PS5 is confirmed not to come out in October, Sony says it will still make its planned release window during the holidays later this year.
