The director of the movie Dune, Denis Villeneuve, has confirmed that he's well into the development of the sequel, which adapts the second half of Frank Herbert's book. According to Villeneuve, he "would be very ready to go quite quickly" with the sequel Dune: Part 2 and would like to start filming as soon as 2022, assuming that Warner Bros. gives him a green light. Although the sequel will depend on how the first film performs when it gets released in North America, having gotten a sold debut at the international box office last month.

The movie adapts the first half of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel of the same name. Technically titled, Dune: Part 1, the final trailer of the film highlights the film's spectacle and scale while focusing on its key characters. The trailer features Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, the heir to House Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Paul's father. It also features Zendaya as Chani, a member of Arrakis' native Freman population, with Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Paul's mentor as well as a swordmaster who serves House Atreides. Stellan Skarsgård briefly shows up in the trailer as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, the vicious head of House Harkonnen and a sworn enemy of House Atreides. Although Zendaya is very prominent in the promo, Zendaya was only on the set of Dune for four days. She noted in a recent interview, "My part is very, very small in this movie and that's why I'm so excited to see it, to see what everyone's been up to."

Dune will be released in U.S. theaters and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021.
