Fantastic Four Director Josh Trank Admits He Let Stan Lee Down In New Tribute

There's been so much heartache since Stan Lee's passing yesterday, and Hollywood has been busy paying tribute to Marvel's comic book legend and cameo king. Fantastic Four director Josh Trank has recently joined the fray, paying honor to Lee by admitting that he let the comic book icon down.

Taking to Twitter to pay tribute to Lee, Trank posted a message Lee sent him, saying that while he had probably disappointed the comic book writer, editor, and publisher with his failure of a movie Fantastic Four, Lee still kept in touch with him.

"Though you could say I let him down, Stan Lee kept in touch. Today we say goodbye to one of the greatest creative icons in history, someone who always reminded us his humanity was not a secret identity. Rest in peace, Stan," the filmmaker wrote on his post.

Lee, together with Jack Kirby, had co-created Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing back in 1961 and the characters became extremely popular in the comic book arena.

However, the Fantastic Four have always struggled to find a proper place in cinema, and in 2015 Trank's Fantastic Four reboot was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews. Not only did the film tank at the box office, but it also lost an estimated $100 million for 20th Century Fox.

Now, as Disney completes its acquisition of Fox and its television and film assets, many are looking forward to the Fantastic Four, X-Men and all the other mutants' migration to the MCU. Hopefully, they'll get better films there.
