Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has just come out, and a lot of fans have been going online to discuss their thoughts on the film. One thing that bugs others is that Dumbledore is the only character who pronounces Grindelwald's name with a ‘V'; luckily, Jude Law explains his choice for that character.
Talking to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Law clarifies:
"It's a very good question. I dived straight in calling him 'Grindlevald', assuming that because I have this very good friendship with him that I got it right. Eddie Redmayne, who plays the great Newt Scamander, pointed out halfway through the film, 'I don't call him that. I call him Grindelwald.' But it was too late. I think it's because, you know, Albus knows him well and at some point, Gellert said, 'Can you please call me 'Grindelvald.' I'm sticking to that."
If you've seen the movie, you know that the relationship with Dumbledore and Grindelwald is highlighted. While it isn't explicitly stated that they were gay, anyone who reads info outside of the books will know that Dumbledore was in love.
Personally, I thought the film actually needed more of Dumbledore, as he spent most of his time at Hogwarts. If anything, the spotlight shines a lot brighter with Grindelwald, but then again, his name is in the title. No doubt Dumbledore is going to come back for the sequel—whenever that happens.
