Fantastic Beasts 2: Eddie Redmayne Wants Hagrid to be Appear at Some Point

The Fantastic Beasts sequel has already started giving us appearances from Potter characters like Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel, but star Eddie Redmayne has one particular character he wants to see with the franchise—another aficionado of beasts.

Talking to CinemaBlend, Redmayne says that he wants a Rubeus Hagrid to make an appearance at some point in the series. Redmayne explains, "Hagrid. And I'm secretly hoping that at some wonderful point, maybe if I say it enough times to J.K. Rowling, like a little mini Hagrid might arrive."

In the official canon, Hagrid is born in the year 1928, and Fantastic Beasts 2 takes place in 1927. No doubt an appearance from Hagrid is possible, but he would have to be a small baby. Maybe in a few more films down the line, Newt can run into a young Hagrid, and it could be him that would instill a love for magical creatures.

There have also been rumors going around that a young McGonagall is going to be appearing in the film, but seeing that she was born in the 30s, a lot of fans are saying that an appearance from her would be breaking canon. Then again, I think the priority is more on telling a compelling a story as compared to keeping to some numbers.

At least, that's what I think the filmmakers are thinking.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided world.

For now, catch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in theaters Nov. 16.
