After much anticipation, Masashi Kishimoto is finally back with a new Naruto one-shot manga that was just released, and some fans are saying it’s way better than Boruto.

This new one-shot is titled Naruto: The Whorl Within the Spiral, and it is a 55-page manga that follows Minato Namikaze, Naruto’s dad who is also best known as the Fourth Hokage.

The new Naruto one-shot was made following the series’ 20th-anniversary celebration.

As part of the anniversary event, a global poll was made which asked fans to rank their favorite characters from the franchise.

Aside from just being a fun poll for fans around the world, the top character there will also get immortalized in a new one-shot that will be made by series creator Masashi Kishimoto.

At the end of the poll, it was Minato Namikaze that took the top spot. And so, Kishimoto confirmed a few months ago that he is working on the manga.

Finally, the manga has been released on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump for free.

As for its story, the one-shot follows Minato and Kushina Uzumaki during their younger years.

As the manga’s title implies, the story explores how Minato developed the Rasengan, which soon became Naruto’s signature technique.

Following the release, Kishimoto trended on Twitter as Naruto fans were all-praise for the new chapter, with many loving the art style.

There was also a lot of praise given to the story and how important Kushina is to both Minato and the development of one of the series’ most well-known techniques.

Amid all the praise, some fans couldn’t help but throw shade at Boruto, with some even saying that this new one-shot is better than the entirety of Boruto.

While this might be an exaggerated take, it does not come out of the left field.

After all, Boruto has been criticized by many fans for its story and art over the years.

Though fans at least have more to look forward to in Boruto as Kishimoto has started to get involved in the series.

Of course, there were Boruto defenders online who disagreed with all the hate towards the series.

What any fan can agree on though is that Kishimoto is still an excellent manga artist, so much so that fans want to see more one-shots from him.

That might not be far off though, given his latest author message.

The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga is currently on hiatus. It will return this August with the next chapter.

Meanwhile, the Boruto anime is also on a break, though there’s no word yet on when it will return.
