Euphoria Star Sydney Sweeney Joins Sony's Madame Web Movie in Mysterious Role

One of the projects that Sony is currently developing as part of their Spider-Man Universe franchise is Madame Web, which will center on the titular character from the Marvel comics. We haven't heard many updates about the projects until several weeks ago when Dakota Johnson was cast to play Madame Web. Now, there is another exciting update on the project again as they have cast one of the rising actresses in Hollywood.

Deadline has reported that Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has joined the cast of Madame Web. However, it is unknown yet what role will she be playing in the film. S.J. Clarkson is attached to direct the film. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are writing the screenplay. According to the report, the actress has been receiving a lot of offers in recent weeks and she ended up accepting this as it was too good to pass up the opportunity to join the franchise's first female-centric film.

While Madame Web is traditionally portrayed as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and connected to a life support system that looked like a spider web, the report indicated that the project could turn into something else. She is also described as essentially the franchise's version of Doctor Strange due to her psychic sensory powers.

Sweeney's casting comes after her breakout role of Cassie Howard in the hit HBO series Euphoria and Olivia Mossbacher in the first season of The White Lotus. She also had a recurring role in The Handmaid's Tale and Sharp Objects. She was also part of the ensemble of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

There is no doubt that Sweeney is one of the rising talents right now in Hollywood so it is inevitable that we'll see her be part of the major movie franchise. While we don't know who she is going to play yet, it seems like she will be playing a significant part since she is the first supporting cast member to join the film and, given her current status, she is destined to play perhaps another prominent character in the comics. Hopefully, we'll find out soon enough about who she will play. For now, all we can do is speculate on her potential role and also watch out for more casting news regarding this project.
