Currently, there is a mystery behind the identity of the author of the upcoming spy movie, Argylle. Many think that Elly Conway is JK Rowling, Taylor Swift, or even Matthew Vaughn himself. What is Argylle?
Argylle is Matthew Vaughn's latest movie with a star-studded cast that includes Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Dua Lipa, Catherine O'Hara, and many more.
The movie is based on the book written by a first-time author, known as Elly Conway. Considering this is Conway's debut work, it seems so weird that her first novel would be adapted into a major film.
This is why people have started wondering who Elly Conway is and whether she is a real person. The Hollywood Reporter has called the author "elusive".
In fact, her author bio on Penguin Random House's website reads:
"Elly Conway was born and raised in upstate New York. She wrote her first novel about Agent Argylle while working as a waitress in a late-night diner."
Why Do People Think Elly Conway is JK Rowling?
All this mystery has sparked rumors that Elly Conway is JK Rowling. After all, the Harry Potter author previously used the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith, when she wrote the detective novel, The Cuckoo's Calling. To date, JK Rowling has written eight books under this alias.
On Robert Galbraith's website, Rowling answered this frequently asked question of why she decided to write the book under an alias. She wrote:
"As for the pseudonym, I was yearning to go back to the beginning of a writing career in this new genre, to work without hype or expectation and to receive totally unvarnished feedback. It was a fantastic experience and I only wish it could have gone on a little longer."
Some also think that Elly Conway is actually Taylor Swift due to the numerous references to her appearance. Conway also carries around her pet cat in a specially-designed backpack with a glass window. Swift has also done this throughout her Miss Americana documentary.
So Who Really Wrote Argylle?
Due to extensive investigation by Washington Post's Sophia Ngyuyen, Conway has thanked British astronomer, Robert Massey, for explaining star charts to her.
In her article, Nguyen shared that she spoke to Massey who revealed that he spoke to "a novelist writing a contracted spy thriller for Penguin Rnadom House" but it was not Elly Conway. Massey revealed that it was Tammy Cohen, a British thriller writer.
Cohen, however, has remained mum on whether she is the real Elly Conway. Nguyen, however, believes that she fits the profile of the elusive spy novel author.
