Elizabeth Olsen Says Scarlet Witch is a MCU Criminal

There is little doubt that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its share of criminals. But could one of the heroes actually be considered one? Elizabeth Olsen just confirmed that her character Scarlet Witch was a criminal in WandaVision.

In WandaVision, it was revealed that Wanda Maximoff had created the Hexagon after failing to get Vision's body from SWORD and finding the lot that he had bought for them in Westview. By creating the Hex, she had somehow trapped Westview's residents to play parts in her real-life sitcom.

Naturally, Olsen understands her character's actions. When she was a guest on the Little Gold Men podcast, the Avengers: Endgame star pointed out that this was something Wanda was aware of and wanted to escape.

"Like, she just did something that makes her a criminal. So, in my mind, the next step in her life is this new sense of identity, of knowing the acts that she committed and her own accountability of it," Olsen said.

She continued by stating that SWORD made Wanda feel this way and forced her to flee.

"All these big trucks are coming in and all these military men and women are coming into assess the situation, and she flies away," Olsen said. "Like, she needs to escape, or she's going to get in trouble, and she doesn't wanna get in trouble. And so she went away with her grief and her shame and is now... I didn't think of her as... I don't think of her being in that home in the tag, she is at peace but she now, for the rest of her life, hiding."

Of course, Wanda has now released Westview and is set on a different journey. For now, we still don't know what her plans are but there is a possibility that it could have something to do with being reunited with her twin sons Billy and Tommy. Hopefully, this is something that we will eventually get to see in Olsen's next MCU project.

Olsen and Scarlet Witch will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will also star Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorceror Supreme. The sequel, which is directed by Sam Raimi, is scheduled for release on March 25, 2022.
