WandaVision was one of the best Phase 4 offerings given how the story was executed and how effective Elizabeth Olsen's portrayal of Wanda Maximoff was.
So when Doctor Strange 2 was announced, fans were hoping that it would continue the greatness of WandaVision, but the MCU movie was believed to have ruined Scarlet Witch’s story arc.
In Olsen’s recent interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writers did not watch her Disney+ series, which is the likely reason that they didn’t get the storyline correct.
“It's a similar arc in 'Multiverse of Madness' that it is in 'WandaVision.' There could be parallel stories being told there of dealing with grief and loss. Well, I proposed that to the writers of 'Multiverse.' I said, ‘Do you know what we're doing in 'WandaVision'? Have you seen it?' And, no, they had not seen it because it wasn't finished yet.’” said Olsen.

Given that the writers didn’t do their assignment, the Liberal Arts star did what she had to do as an actress and tried to put a different spin on her character by making it scarier and darker for MoM.
“So I had to try and, I don't know, play it differently, right? I had to attack the same themes — in order for it to be interesting for me, I think, and potentially for the audience — I just had to come out from a different point of view so that it wasn't repetitive,” explained Olsen.
Despite the lazy writing in Doctor Strange 2, Olsen’s performance as the main villain is still being celebrated to this day. Just recently, the actress secured her third win at the MTV Movie & TV Awards as Wanda.
In 2021, Olsen earned two awards at the event for her role as the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision. She won Best Performance in a Show and the Best Fight award, which she shared with co-star Kathryn Hahn.
