Elizabeth Olsen is without a doubt one of Hollywood's brightest stars and her popularity has grown exponentially over the years. Of course, her mainstream triumph can be attributed to her near-decade involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Wanda Maximoff in multiple film projects and a groundbreaking series.
But before her MCU career even flourished, there were reports circulating all over the internet that she nearly joined Star Wars.
Admittedly a fan of the franchise growing up, it would have been an easy yes for Olsen to become part of the sequel trilogy but apparently, those rumors about her playing Rey weren't true after all.

Returning to Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote her latest Max series Love & Death, Olsen finally addressed the long-standing rumor about her being Lucasfilm's original choice to play Rey in The Force Awakens.
For the uninitiated, the persistent rumor claims that Olsen turned down an opportunity to audition for the role due to scheduling conflicts as she was also filming Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2014.
Turns out, it's only now that the actress is finding out about the Star Wars casting rumors which she quickly denied. She said: "I've never had an audition for that. That wasn't even [in the ether] but fun rumor."

Assuming Olsen was actually in contention for the role that would ultimately be given to Daisy Ridley, I still think it's the right call for her to stay in the MCU and play the Scarlet Witch.
Despite Lizzie's tremendous acting chops, we all know how poorly written and executed the sequels were, and not even her brilliance could have redeemed them.
Now, as for the future of Rey, the polarizing character is set to headline the next Star Wars film expected to be released sometime in 2025 and one could hope Lucasfilm has learned from the previous mistakes they've committed when it comes to handling the character.
