Elijah Wood was already a huge star when he was cast as Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. After all, the former child star had been acting since he was seven years old and had already worked on several films before joining the franchise. However, it looks like Wood still managed to embarrass himself in front of his equally famous co-stars on the first day of filming for Fellowship of the Ring.
In 1999, Wood was cast in Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings book trilogy. He and the rest of the cast would work on the films for over a year and spending all that time together led to an awesome bond. But before it all started, Wood somehow provided a hilarious and embarrassing way to break the ice with his co-stars.
Wood was recently a guest on Hot Ones, the YouTube series where celebrities answer questions while eating spicy wings. The Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency star revealed that he immediately embarrassed himself on the first day of filming for Fellowship of the Ring.
"The scene is, we are rolling down the hill after Merry and Pippin run into us, running away from Farmer Maggot's field, having stolen a bunch of vegetables. They bang into us. We roll down the hill... And I think it was like, take two. And I had a -- what is that, a concussion fart? A fart that is brought on by pressure," Wood said.
It's a hilarious moment and not surprisingly, Wood confirmed that everyone laughed at the situation. It was a great way to ease the tension in filmmaking and we're hoping it was easier to work on the scene after the farting incident.
Wood played Frodo in all three Lord of the Rings movies as well as the first instalment of The Hobbit titled An Unexpected Journey. He is currently promoting his new film No Man of God, which hits theaters on August 27, 2021.
