Early Concept Art for Jar Jar Binks was Actually Used in the Clone Wars

Jar Jar Binks has a very unique place in the Star Wars fandom. Though a lot of people may scoff at him being annoying, a huge chunk of kids who watched the prequels actually think he's pretty great. Stephen Stanton, who has worked on bunch of different Star Wars shows, gives to us an early mock-up of Jar Jar and how they decided to use it for the animated Clone Wars.

Check it out:

Just looking at the design, it looks like Jar Jar's head enlarged and fitted with arms and legs. Though Chewbacca only walks around with a bandolier, I'm actually happy that Lucas ended up deciding on a look for Jar Jar that had clothes on. He could have easily been a naked creep walking around with Qui-Gon on Tatooine.

It's actually interesting that the animated shows can pull out concept art from the Lucasfilm archives. Besides this Col. Meebur Gascon character, the design of Zeb from Star Wars Rebels is actually based on that of rejected concept art of Chewbacca by Ralph McQuarrie.

With the incoming Star Wars Resistance show on the way, I'm sure we're also going to get some neat behind-the-scenes Easter Eggs when the series debuts.

Star Wars Resistance comes out sometime later this year.
