E3: Devil May Cry 5 Officially Announced, Nero is the Lead Character

During Microsoft's impressive E3 showcase, they revealed the first trailer of Devil May Cry 5. Of all the titles that were rumored for E3, this seemed to be one of the more obvious ones thanks to Capcom registering the name not too long ago. Still, it's good to see the game confirmed and it even has a few surprises.

Fans were surprised to see a short-haired lead in the trailer, with some theorizing that this would be a sequel to DmC: Devil May Cry. However, the 5 was put there for a reason and it's because the lead character shown was confirmed to be Nero by the game's Japanese Twitter account (via Gematsu), who shared the spotlight with Dante in Devil May Cry 4.

Not only has Nero cut his hair, making him look less like classic Dante and more like reboot Dante from DmC, but he also has a metal arm. The trailer does show someone cutting off his formerly demonic arm, which is likely what lead to his Winter Soldier look.

It's also worth noting that he has a new female companion called Nico, who looks to be helping Nero with his demon hunting. Kyrie, Nero's love interest from the fourth game, was not shown at all, so it will be interesting to see what her fate is. In fact, we don't see Trish or Lady either, while Dante himself does appear in the end.

Devil May Cry 5 will launch in Spring 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
